Trail 4W686

Distance: 3.5 miles
Running Time: Approx. 45 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

The 4W686 trail runs from the end of FS1708 up hill to join with 4W685 (Milk Lake Trail) just past the bridge.   The trail recently had almost an extra 2.5 miles added to its distance after the forest service decided not to maintain the upper 3 miles of the FS-1708 road and bermed the road just around the corner from the 590 road turnoff.  A new trail maker here proclaims the road to now be the 4W686 trail.  The trail continues to be rated easy as it is mostly just the old FS-1708 road.  Berms have been built along the way to make sure that nothing but 4x4s can get up the road.  Also a couple of near washouts make the road less passable but none the less easy for a stock 4x4 to get through. 2.4 miles after the beginning of the trail the 4W686 trail bears off the "road" to the left.  From here it winds through old clear cuts and into and out of stands of forest and passes by a nice pond before joining the 4W685 trail.

Getting There:  From Hwy 410, approximately 2.8 miles west of Clifdell, turn onto the FS1708 (Milk Creek Rd).  Follow Milk Creek Rd to milk pond (stay to the left at the pond) and continue up hill.  At aproximately 5.6 miles you will pass the 530 road on the left and round a hairpin turn.  The 1708 road ends here and the 4W686 trail begins.
