Baker Creek Trail 4W327
Baker Creek Trail (4W327)
Distance: 3.8 miles
Approx Running time: 2 hours
Difficulty: Most Difficult
Pass Needed: NO
The last time we had a chance to run the Baker Creek Trail it proved to be full of off-camber, tight and twisty spots with rocky and loose hill climbs/descents that is best suited for a rig with good armour and experience behind the wheel. If wet this trail will surely become a winch fest. Once on top of Teanaway ridge the trail will cross an old and seldom used forest service road several times before climbing up onto a small knowl. From this viewpoint and on a good day you can see the Red Top Fire Lookout tower and the Stewart Mountains to the north and Ellensburg in the valley below to the south. The trail continues on from here one more mile before re-joining the FS road. From the knowl you nose down a very steep descent as you continue on. You will eventually find yourself at a steep descent that is littered with large rock and big ruts that will twist your suspension before the trail returns to more or less an old logging road.
Getting There:
From Hwy 97 northbound and about 1.6 miles north of the turnoff for Liberty, watch for the Baker Creek Campground on the left (which may or may not still exist). Imediately after the campground take a left turn onto Forest Service road 9700-192 which doubles back up the hill. Follow this road approximately 1 mile to the trailhead for the Baker Ridge Trail which will be on the left. At just over half a mile in on the Baker Ridge Trail, the Baker Creek trail will diverge on the left.
